REVIEW | DEVITA SOLAR PROTECTIVE MOISTURIZER SPF 30+

Sadly, I'm not doing this collab as I'm really new to natural/organic products. I doubt I even have 10-15 products yet. =( Would have loved to join the party. Oh well! Maybe next time!

My thoughts: So many bloggers talked about how wonderful this product was, so I had to try it for myself! With all those good reviews floating around, I just couldn't resist the temptation.

As a child, I never wore sun screen. The smell, the stickiness, the oil....blerk. I hated all of that (ya...there are quite a lot of products that I hated)! So my mom never bought me sun screen. As I grew older, I learned that sun rays can cause skin damages. So I decided to purchase my first sun screen at the age of 20 (pretty late eh?). It was the Neutrogena 30+. I wore that twice, before giving up. I still got my bottle here...between all my skin care items, and it's still full =(.

So when I made the decision to purchase the DeVita Solar Protective Moisturizer SPF 30+, I didn't quite know what to expect. But then since I had so many positive experiences with organic/natural products, I just said why not!

To tell the truth, this moisturizer has been sitting on my desk since January. It was only three weeks ago that I decided to give it a go. And guess what?! For that entire three weeks, I wore it every morning! I'm actually pretty proud of myself! I'm also pretty happy that DeVita created such a wonderful product.

However, I'm not totally satisfied with it...I'll show you why.

DeVita Moisturizer

This is the texture of the moisturizer. Very creamy, smooth, and can be easily blended. It's actually the first sun screen that I enjoyed applying. It didn't leave the face feeling oily, or sticky, and it didn't have that unpleasant sun screen smell. I didn't break out from using it, and it actually feels very nice on the skin. Dries really fast, unlike most of the sun screen, and it doesn't leave a white cast when well blended.

HOWEVER!

DeVita residue?

I have been trying to figure out what are those white things that are in the picture?

When I'm done applying this sun screen (or moisturizer), I get these little white things on my face (mainly on my forehead) as well as my hands, as you can see. Is it because I'm wearing it wrong? Is there some sort or process I have to go through? I'm wearing it on top of my moisturizer because my face is pretty dry during the winter, so is it because of the moisturizer? Is this happening to other people too?

Would love to hear what other people think...Because really...I'm actually enjoying this product very much. But this white thing is kind of bothering me. I would have plenty of fall outs, and it would be every where on my desk, floor, or anything that was underneath my face while I was applying this. And then some of those white stuff would get stuck on my lashes, on my nose, ... pretty much every where on my face.

Love the product itself. It's giving me that boost of moisture, doesn't have all the stuff I hate about sun screen, and it feels quite smooth. So....=(

Please tell me what I'm doing wrong!!!!

  1. All the Green Bloggers outside of UK are talking about this product :) I've yet to find something as good in the UK. I'm unsure what could be causing the "white things"

  2. What do you wear under the sunscreen? Any skincare? I haven't tried this particular product, but I wonder if it could a combo of this + something else causing it to pill up like that

  3. @CaitieI'm only wearing my moisturizer under the sunscreen. My skin is really dry so I kind of need the double moisture. I tried it without the moisturizer, and it still gives the same thing....it's quite weird >.<

  5. this also happens when i wear my MVO face screen (it's a sunscreen) over some products. I suspect it's the combination... I think using face oils instead of moisturizers help as the emulsifying agents all tend to 'ball up'.

Maybe you can try toner + oil... wait for 3 mins... then this product.

P.S. this is on my purchase (not repurchase) list. Everyone keeps talking about it, I need to try it. :D Some people say the one for the body has a better texture so I might even get both. Argh...

  6. Oh, another technique is to make sure you apply fast and don't rub on the same spot. It's kinda tricky, though. This morning, I experienced balling up with my sunscreen again and I've been using it for years.

  7. @EcoBeauty Vivithanks for the tip! I tried today not to rub too much on one spot, and I think it is better. I normally would apply it slowly so to "enjoy" the process of putting moisturizer on my face. S today I tried by doing it fast and not rub too much. Definitely saw a difference >.< I'll try it on top of oil + toner next time >.< thanks!

  8. This looks like an excellent product Vanessa & I like the fact that you describe it as 'feather light'. I really dislike the thought of having my face caked it product, makes me feel claustrophobic!!! I like bare minerals & badger balm :) I agree with Vivi about the moisturiser underneath your sun pro maybe being a reason for white flakes. Only I noticed once I started using oils / oil based moisturiser, I no longer had this problem on my face :) Great review! xx

  10. @Dana MillarkieI've been trying it with oil these days, and it's apparently better now. I don't get those white stuff. However, I still see some (but very very minimal). Badger Balm sunscreen are on my wish list right now xD will be trying them next! ^.^

  11. @JanaHaha~ I guess the application of this sunscreen is quite tricky. If you get it right, it will work. It's getting better now as I'm using oil instead of my every day moisturizer. And I'm also trying to apply it as fast as possible without rubbing the same spot for too long xD Thanks for the comment ^.^

  12. Look on line, and you will find Devita changed their Zinc supplier. So the company says.

Sounds like this sunscreen used to be the Holy Grail for many, until the product was changed.

Such a shame. Many wonderful products undergo changes to cut costs, and it's the buyers who suffer.
